The work on redesigning the Boulevard Kastanienallee in Berlin-Hellersdorf has been underway since August 2020. The aim is to upgrade and reinvigorate the boulevard. The project is being run by the Boulevard Kastanienallee neighbourhood management team, and Deutsche Wohnen is contributing EUR 300,000.

As Nadine Degen, managing director of Deutsche Wohnen Immobilien Management GmbH, explains, “Together with all our partners in the local area, we have been successfully driving forward the redesign of the Boulevard Kastanienallee for a few years now. In all of this, it is very important that the residents can get involved and, in so doing, identify more closely with their neighbourhood. This planting activity is designed to achieve just that and to motivate the tenants to involve themselves in shaping their residential environment in other ways as well.”

As early as 2017-18, participation procedures took place with a view to involving the residents in the redesign of their neighbourhood. Against the background of the wishes and suggestions that were expressed, an overall design plan was created that detailed the specific measures that would be put in place.

In designing its external grounds, Deutsche Wohnen would like to contribute to maintaining biodiversity in Germany. Since 2018, green areas have been systematically converted into meadows or gardens and have been planted with a variety of perennial plants and fruit trees. These wild meadows serve as both a food source and a safe space, particularly for bees and other insects.
