Lindenauer Hafen: Deutsche Wohnen is on board
A diverse new neighbourhood where people can live and work is taking shape at Leipzig’s Lindenauer Hafen – right by the water. Deutsche Wohnen is partnering the project and building two apartment blocks. The buildings’ first tenants moved in in spring 2020.

Waterside living in the city
Originally designed as a visionary transport infrastructure project, Lindenauer Hafen in Leipzig’s west is now being converted into a desirable residential area. A range of developers are working on around 500 residential and commercial units on the 40,000-square-metre site of the former industrial port. Deutsche Wohnen has built a five-storey new-build complex comprising two apartment blocks with a total of 44 residential units and one commercial unit. One special highlight is free access to the riverbanks.
Its residents can look forward to comfortable apartments. Each of the 50- to 120-square-metre residential units has its own terrace, balcony or garden – allowing tenants to take full advantage of the waterside location. The two- to five-room apartments are all accessible and enjoy lift access to the underground car park with its 37 parking spaces. The KIWI keyless entry system and ‘MiA – My intelligent Assistant’ offer added convenience. This latter system allows tenants to control heating and window shutters using a smart control unit in the apartment or a smartphone app.

See what’s on offerA sustainable development

As we adhered to strict sustainability criteria when working on the new builds, the project has been awarded the “Sustainable Housing” quality label by the organization NaWoh. The building material used is particularly remarkable: the facade consists of proton bricks, which offers insulation as well as flexible design options. For this project, we chose a brick design to suit the neighbourhood, drawing visually on the history of the former industrial port. This makes the brick buildings a great aesthetic fit for the popular district of Plagwitz – the perfect spot to stroll along the Karl-Heine canal. We also incorporated sustainable, durable fixtures and fittings such as wooden window frames and parquet flooring into the construction.
