Modern living in the historic district
The new neighbourhood being created in Krampnitz is a response to two important questions of our time: how do we satisfy the growing demand for housing in the metropolitan areas and conurbations? And what does the modern living of tomorrow look like? These questions are the inspiration for a brand-new neighbourhood for living which is taking shape in Krampnitz – with three nurseries, a primary and a secondary school, sports facilities and a youth club. Retailers, services and restaurants will also be added to the neighbourhood. All in a leafy area by the water.
Terrain with history
Yet in the past, the area had a very different use. The Army Riding and Driving School and Cavalry School Krampnitz opened in 1939. Later – after 1945 – the Soviet army moved in. The site then stood empty for many years. In 2013, its listed buildings were marked for urban development by the city of Potsdam. Now, with a joint agreement between the city of Potsdam and Deutsche Wohnen, the site doesn’t just have a lot of history – it has a big future, too.
