Support for refugees from Ukraine
We are among those deeply concerned by the current situation in Ukraine. Our thoughts are with all those who are fighting for their freedom and fearing for their safety right now. It is important to us as individuals and as a company to help those affected in this difficult situation. We are looking to do so right here in Berlin, where many refugees are arriving. Alongside supplying financial assistance to social organisations and associations with whom we are in regular contact, our main priority is providing practical support. We’re overwhelmed by the commitment and dedication every volunteer has shown and we're delighted to be a part of it.
Donating food and essential items
We contributed donations of food and essential items to support Ukrainians as they arrived in the city. Our dedicated team of employees filled around 3,000 bags with donations, then delivered them straight to the Hauptbahnhof main railway station, the Zentraler Omnibusbahnhof (ZOB) bus station and an emergency accommodation centre run by the city mission.
Our employees also collected and sorted many donated items in an internal collection drive. This allowed us to supply organisations including the Arche, the Technisches Hilfswerk, the Tafel food bank and Tiertafel animal food bank.
We were able to secure a month’s worth of lunch supplies for a Berlin refuge housing 70 women and children.
Living space and furnishing emergency accommodation
Thanks to a generous furniture donation, we have fitted out an accommodation centre under construction for up to 300 residents on the barracks site in Bernau. We also helped bring furniture to Bernau from an empty monastery. The removal companies we work with on a regular basis helped us do this free of charge.
Of course, we are also supplying living space for Ukrainian refugees wherever we can. We have already allocated around 320 flats – including some fully furnished units, with welcome packs including food and hygiene products. By renting out these flats, we have already been able to provide a new home for more than 540 Ukrainians, most of them mothers with children.
