Art collective Die Dixons are behind the Berlin Mural Festival, which was founded in 2018. Its second edition in September 2019 saw huge murals from international artists appear on walls, all with the support of Deutsche Wohnen – including in areas outside the usual street art hotspots, such as Marzahn and Hellersdorf.

This year, the programme featured exclusively Berlin-based street artists, who were hard hit by the pandemic. With one special aspect: artists with different techniques created a shared mural together. Deutsche Wohnen offered up building facades in the districts of Charlottenburg, Mitte, Kreuzberg and Neukölln for the occasion.

Neighbourhood art

Deutsche Wohnen and Die Dixons have collaborated with success for several years outside of the festival, too. Various murals have been created in Berlin, Frankfurt/Main and Dresden as part of the project, in the spirit of “neighbourhood art”. The murals brighten up our neighbourhoods and make them something special. As part of the Berlin Mural Fest 2021, new neighbourhoods have been added, which have been upgraded with works of art. The murals are a hit with residents: we got a lot of positive feedback from tenants.
